After the detailed design survey areas such as Old gents hostel, New gents hostel, NRI hostel,Ladies hostel,Board room, Seminar hall, cafeteria, Guest house,and learning centers are networked using 802.11b wireless technology, offering shared connectivity.
The WLAN was set up in such a way that it provides seamless mobility from one hotspot to another without losing connection or signal strength.
Around 750 laptop users are on the Wi-Fi and the LINKSYS, BROVIS,MROTEK,SENOA products are used as wireless access points. Currently, there are 32 access points around the campus and they are designed in such a way that the wireless network cannot be accessed beyond the restricted area.
The Wi-Fi( Wireless Fidelity) system has been functioning with 8 Mbps leased line connectivity provided by BSNL. The hotspots have been created with an investment of Rs 35 lakh.
As Wi-Fi security being a area of concern, In furture PSNA will take elaborate steps to stop unauthorised access has been proposed to take preconfigured SSID (Service Set Identifier) and password for security (authentication).
