About Department :
The Department of Information Technology was started in the year 1999 with an initial intake of 40 students. Subsequently, the intake was increased to 60 and 90 in the years 2000 and 2001 respectively. Then the intake was increased to 120 in the year 2005. Eventually the Intake was increased to 180 in the year 2011. The department is accredited for 3 Years in 2019 by National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi.
Department is equipped with outstanding infrastructure and boasts of a unit of 31 learned and dedicated faculty members and sincere staff who work with zeal and enthusiasm to provide a vibrant and optimum learning environment to the students and help them acquire the skills which are required to excel in today's competitive environment.
The department offers M.E Computer Science and Engineering (with Specialization in Networks). The department is recognized as a Research Centre by Anna University, Chennai, 31 faculty members including 17 members with Ph.D, 12 faculty members are pursuing Ph.D under Anna University, Chennai. 252 research articles are published in reputed international journals for the past three years. To motivate the research activity among faculty members, they are clustered under five research groups Soft Computing and Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Data Science and Security, Multimedia Systems and Apps, Autonomous robotic systems, Natural language understanding, Bioinformatics, Fuzzy and neural systems, and Intelligent control systems group to carry out the research in the advanced research fields.
At present 10 internal research candidates and 26 external research candidates are pursuing their Ph.D programme under the department of IT. Our faculty brings state-of-the-art research, development, and design experience into the classroom, ensuring that our students and alumni are able to apply for registration as professional engineers in all parts of global engineering and the scientific community. 10 faculty members have been certified as WIPRO-PRP trainers, 12 faculty members as IBM-Mobile Application development trainers and 20 faculty members as IBM-Data Analytics Mobile Application development trainers.
The excellent placement record which has been consistently above 85 % for the past several years, alone of our students, is ample testimony to the emphasis that has been placed on the industrial needs of our country. 144 students got placed in 2016, 113 students in 2017, 98 students in 2018, 120 students in 2019 and 158 students in 2020, 148 students in 2021, 131students in 2022,130 students in 2023, and 131 around students are placed so far in companies like Zoho, Tata Consultancy Services,Accenture, Cognizant Technology Solutions, WIPRO Technologies, Infosys Technologies, Jasmine InfoTech, IBM and HCL Technologies Limited etc.
