Brief Institution Profile :

PSNACET is a premier institution in Tamilnadu with International standards. It was established in 1984 at the outskirts of Dindigul Township as a response to the clarion call made by the public for a quality engineering institution in this part of South Tamilnadu. This prestigious institution, at present, offers 10 UG courses and 4 PG courses in Engineering and also MCA and MBA. The college is accredited with ‘A++’ grade by NAAC and all UG Programmes along with MBA and MCA are accredited by National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi. These programs have multiple specializations to provide world class engineering education and outcome based education to develop graduates with desirable professional attributes. The college also engages significantly with capacity development of professionals working in the education department and in departments such as health and rural development of the Government.

What is Biomedical Engineering?

Biomedical engineering (BME) is the application of engineering principles and techniques to the medical field. It combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with the medical and biological science to help, improve patient health care and the quality of life of healthy individuals. It is a broad multidisciplinary field that offers rewarding careers related to computer science, electrical engineering, engineering physics, mathematics and statistics, mechanical engineering, software engineering and agricultural and bio-systems engineering.

Nature of Work :

Bio-Medical Engineers design and develop instruments for diagnosis and rehabilitation. As a biomedical engineer, they can be involved in formulating new scheme of diagnosis method, analysis and decision making procedures that enhance the quality of health care system. They can develop innovative biologics materials, processes, implants and informatics for patient rehabilitation and for improving health.

Opportunities :

Employment opportunities for biomedical engineers are immense considering the fact that the aging of the population and focus on health issues will increase the demand for better medical devices and equipment designed by biomedical engineers. According to the Indian Bureau of Labour Statistics, Biomedical Engineers have excellent job prospects and earning potential in the years to come. Most of the biomedical engineers are employed in medical equipment and supplies manufacturing.

Graduates of this course work in a range of application areas, which include the design or production of Study engineering aspects of bio-behavioral systems of humans, using knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.

  • Advise hospital administrators on the planning, acquisition, and use of medical equipment
  • Plan and conduct research concerning behavioral, biological, psychological, or other life systems
  • Develop mathematical models and computer simulations of human bio- behavioral systems in order to obtain information to measure or control life processes, using knowledge of computer graphics and other related technologies
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of drugs and other medications
  • Develop new applications for energy sources such as nuclear power for biomedical implants
  • Conduct research with scientists, chemists and medical scientist on engineering of the biological systems of humans and animals
  • Evaluate the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of biomedical equipment
  • Deliver technology to assist people with disabilities
  • Install, adjust, maintain, and/or repair biomedical equipment

In addition they find potential opportunities also in electronics engineering and information technology related organization.
