About Mathematics :

Mathematics is the study of topics such as quantity, structure, space and change. Aristotle defined mathematics as "the science of quantity". Three leading types of definition of mathematics called intuitionist and formalist, each reflecting a different philosophical school of thought. Mathematics is essential in many fields, including natural science, engineering, medicine , finance and the social sciences. The history of mathematics can be seen as an ever increasing series of abstractions. The first abstraction, which is shared by many animals, was probably that of numbers. Evidence for more complex mathematics does not appear until around 3000 BC, when the Egyptians began using arithmetic, algebra and geometry for taxation and other financial calculations , for building and construction, and for astronomy. The mathematics were earlier used in trading, land measurement, painting and weaving patterns and the recording of time.

There are also subdivisions dedicated to exploring links from the heart of mathematics to other fields: to logic, to set theory , to the empirical mathematics of the various sciences and more recently to the rigorous study of uncertainty. While some areas might seem unrelated, the Langland’s program has found connections between areas previously thought unconnected , such as Galois groups, Riemann surfaces and number theory

About I-Math Club Of PSNACET :

The Department of Mathematics is one among the nine departments which serves the academic needs of the institute and strives hard to impart the required mathematical ability and knowledge among the B.E./B.Tech, M.E/ M.Tech, M.B.A students to create competent professionals of tomorrow. It has highly experienced and well qualified faculty members who are engaged in teaching and research. Research is being carried out in a wide variety of fields including Optimization techniques, Fuzzy, Graph theory, Operations research, Algebra, Fluid dynamics, Differential equations.

The Department also conducts interdepartmental activities like Math’s quiz, Aptitude test, etc to develop the mathematical skills of the students. Utmost care is taken by the members of faculty to bridge the curriculum and modern needs. In the year 2015-2016, maths club was renamed as i-math club(infinity math) with an intention to extend the maths club activities infinitely. In addition to all the above events i-math club of PSNACET conducted various inter departmental competitions like aptitude test, Maths quiz ,wherein the students expressed their mathematical skills. We focus on helping out the students to develop mathematical skills.
